Moon first, then Mars: a chat with astronaut Jack Fischer
What is it like to go to space?
Today we have a special privilege: we’re talking to an astronaut who has spent 136 days in the International Space Station and completed 2 space walks.
He’s also the mission director for the recent Intuitive Machines lunar lander, the first US mission to the moon in more than 50 years.
His name is Jack Fischer.
In this episode of TechFirst, host John Koetsier interviews astronaut Jack Fisher, who spent 136 days on the International Space Station (ISS). Fisher describes the awe-inspiring experience of space travel, emphasizing the different perspective gained from 250 miles up.
He humorously recounts adapting to zero gravity and the physical relief it provided for his neck and back. The conversation covers Fisher's role as mission director for the Intuitive Machines lunar lander and space missions' significance.
They delve into the technological and cooperative efforts required for future Mars missions, including efficient propulsion and collaboration across industries. Fisher keeps the discussion engaging with anecdotes and enthusiasm for space exploration, highlighting recent advancements and the potential for a lunar economy.

This testing is a joke! A traditional HDD has an "Average Statistical Life is ABOUT 5 Years". Apple's predilection is to also use SATA 2 / 5400 RPM drives in their computers, which are DOG SLOW to start off with. Just running your test like this proves NOTHING. I guarantee you with a NEW SATA3/7200 HDD or SSD, the 2019 will be much faster than the 2013 for computational workloads and should in general be in loading apps in general, but you might be talking 1-2 secs loading difference. I have seen this LOOOOONG macOS load time, and its a failing HDD, due to "Lifespan" and likely has read/write errors. Run DriveDx on both of them to compare Apples to Apples on the HDD's and see their health status. I repeat and replace drives and RAM on 2013 to 2019 iMac all the time, and your testing is very much unbalanced in it's presentation.

All this really tells me is that we suck at measuring intelligence. Current AI doesnt think like humans so even below average humans can exceed it in areas where it is weak, which are numerous and will prevent AI from fully replacing humans. How can you honestly compare something thay is so different? We may unfortunately or fortunately find that very powerful AGI remains more of a tool supplementing human work. Where as I would expect true human level intelligence to quickly reach a point where it can surpass any human and make istelf even better than our best researchers.

Stop the nonsense. They don't have AGI. The moment they had AGI, all research would stop and, of course, OpenAI would be shut down overnight, shut down by the US government. Do you think that the NSA does not know every step that OpenAI takes? Do you think that engineers and scientists working on AI at other competing companies don't know what OpenAI is doing? If you think otherwise, it is that you clearly have a wrong and, of course, very naive knowledge of the world. AGI has not been achieved. Otherwise, each and every one of us would realize it.

Given that there is the technology allowing its invention, If we don't develop it, our adversaries will. And they WILL use it against us. Now that's a scary scenario. In terms of us losing meaning in life if we don't work, I think finding a hobby is much better than China or Russia using AGI against us

I have not tested every language model, but everyone I have seen is very biased. For example, yesterday I asked Bing to write a short news story. When it came time for Sports, Bing chose to quote a WNBA game. I don't follow sports, but I do know the ratings of every WNBA game are lower than real basketball. When I questioned Bing about the decision to use WNBA, Bing said yes, but WNBA viewership is up 40% since some year. I then asked Bing what are the ratings compared to male viewership, and Bing answered with yes, the male basketball gets another sets of numbers, but "he" used years for the men, and single games for the women. I had to force him to admit that yes, men's games do get more viewers per game. Ask an AI to randomly pick Up or Down, and I get Up way more than I get down. Could be in infinity this will average out, but I won't live that long. While i think it will eliminate jobs way sooner than our society is prepared for, they are still toasters. I have yet to see an original joke that was actually funny from a toaster. I have read some OK stories, but most are not that original, just rehashed version of something already written.
